Henry David Thoreau, a famous American poet and philosopher once said, ― “What is the use of a house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?”
It has been difficult for all of us as humans to cope with the destructive and devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, the past many years have been much harsher on our environment due to human-induced misdeeds that resulted in climate change, dwindling wildlife and marine life, deforestation, pollution and so on.
In the year 2020, nature showed off its omnipotent power of healing during the first phase of lockdown. While the world was in distress, our nature was at its best. The Earth saw COVID-19 as an opportunity to recover. Hence, the sight of clear blue skies and the fresh breeze of air gave people a sense of hope towards a healthy and better environment.
BluSmart came into being to transform and build sustainable and safer mobility for a better future. Thus, we have been trying to motivate people to switch to a cleaner, greener, and sustainable commute mode with various awareness activities.
#MyBluKms: A challenge to promote the adoption of electric mobility to reduce the city’s carbon footprint!
The contest aimed to promote and highlight the positive impacts of electric mobility and how the world can be transformed into a better place with each electric ride. Through this campaign, we focused on reducing the city’s burden of air pollution, as it poses an imminent threat to every single living being. The challenge encouraged thousands of people to switch to an eco-friendly mode of transportation by shifting to electric cabs.
How did the challenge help?
The challenge was taken up by the masses which helped in curbing 1.5 tonnes of Co2 emissions. Not only this, until now we have saved our city from 1000 tonnes of Co2 emissions with the help of our riders who adopted the sustainable mode of transportation, i.e, travelling in eco-friendly, electric cabs.
In support of World Environment Day, we want to lay down the importance of adopting a sustainable mode of travel for a better and greener future. Also, for all the tech-savvy people reading this, here are a few ways through which you can significantly reduce your digital footprint just by sitting at your desk!
4 awesome ways you can go green by cutting down your digital carbon footprint::
1. Your PCs aren’t good sleepers!
When you’re finished with your work, it’s time for you to shut your device. And, if you’re in the middle of a break, put your device in sleep mode to reduce its energy consumption.
2. Delete those emails!
Every email you send, receive and the store has a carbon footprint. So, it’s always suggested to delete emails after you’re done with them because every email stored on the server uses energy.
3. Stop ST(C)REAMING and Start Downloading!
Downloading files uses way less energy than streaming. The data stored locally will only consume a fraction of energy in comparison to the amount consumed by streaming.
4. Lower that brightness!
Reducing the screen's brightness can reduce its energy consumption by 20%. Optimizing your power consumption can go a long way in reducing your digital footprint.
We must notice that the fragile planet where we live need us as much as we need it. If we don’t take action now, we might never get another chance!
